Job Description:

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) is seeking a skilled individual to join our Engineering department as a Handyman in Bloemfontein. The successful candidate will report directly to the Team Leader: Site.

Key Purpose:

To proactively maintain (inspect and adjust) and repair site-related equipment, including building maintenance, painting, and general repairs, according to maintenance schedules.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand and power tools and reassemble equipment.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure building systems operate efficiently and physical conditions do not deteriorate.
• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
• Maintain ablution facilities.
• Assemble pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
• Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodworks, plaster drywall, and other parts of building structures.
• Repair counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures such as sheds and outbuildings.

Skills, Experience & Education:

Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

Repairing: Repair machines or systems using the necessary tools.

Troubleshooting: Determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about them.

Good understanding of plumbing systems and repairs.

Active Listening: Pay full attention to what others are saying, take time to understand the points being made, ask questions as appropriate, and not interrupt at inappropriate times.

Equipment Selection: Plan a critical part of task execution with correct tools.

Reading Comprehension: Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.

Critical Thinking: Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Operation Monitoring: Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure equipment is working properly.

Coordination: Adjust actions in relation to others’ actions.

Qualifications / Experience:

• Matric with Maths.
• A trade qualification (e.g., carpentry, painting, building, and plumbing) is advantageous.
• A minimum of two years of proven experience as a tiler, painter, plumber, or carpenter, preferably from a construction background.
• Proficiency in oral communication in English.
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Proficient use of hand and power tools.
• Valid driver’s license.
