Job Description
The Workshop Assistant plays a critical role in supporting workshop operations, ensuring efficient material and equipment control, and promoting a safe and collaborative work environment. This position requires a proactive individual with strong organizational skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain good housekeeping practices within the workshop.
- Oversee material, machinery, and equipment control.
- Utilize engineering tools effectively.
- Load and dispatch materials and equipment to work sites.
- Assist artisans and tradespeople with tasks both within and outside the team.
- Ensure the availability of tools and materials for task completion.
- Follow work instructions and apply recognized safety standards.
- Promote teamwork and ensure tasks meet required quality standards.
- Minimize material waste and ensure proper resource utilization.
- Communicate unexpected issues to artisans promptly.
- Foster effective two-way communication with team members.
- Support operational employees in maintaining equipment within the area of responsibility.
- Accompany artisans during inspections and task completion.
- Promote safety awareness by reminding team members to adhere to work procedures and identifying unsafe practices.
- Report safety-related concerns to the artisan or full-time safety representative.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
- Internal development opportunities through ABET, NCOR, and NTC1 programs.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of plant experience (advantageous).
Knowledge and Skills
- Proficient in English communication.
- Valid driver’s license (advantageous).
