Job Description
The Department of Basic Education, in collaboration with participating schools, is offering fixed-term General School Assistant (GSA) positions to support school operations, learner development, and infrastructure maintenance. Successful candidates will be placed in schools across different provinces in South Africa, contributing to a safer and more enriching educational environment.
There are two distinct GSA roles available:
1. Sport and Enrichment Assistants (SEA)
No Matric certificate required (trade certificates are advantageous).
Promote sports, arts, and cultural activities to enhance learner engagement.
Must have a demonstrated passion for youth development in sports, arts, or culture.
2. Handypersons
No Matric certificate required (trade certificates are advantageous).
Assist with maintaining school infrastructure, gardens, and surroundings.
Interest in practical, hands-on work related to school upkeep.
Key Notes for Applicants
- No specific school grade is required – applicants from any grade background are welcome.
- Applications must be submitted via the SAYouth.mobi website before the closing date.
Eligibility Requirements
Youth aged 18–34 (must be 18+ when applying or turning 35 by 31 March 2026).
Must reside within 5km of the school (30km for farm schools).
Only one opportunity per household.
NEET Youth (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) – except those studying teaching via distance/online learning.
No criminal record.
Not receiving any government grants (e.g., SASSA SRD R350), wages, or other stipends.
South African citizens only (valid ID required).
Youth with disabilities must provide a medical certificate.
