Job Description

South African Breweries (SAB), part of the AB InBev family, is offering three apprenticeship opportunities in the Fitter & Turner trade at its Ibhayi Brewery. This programme is aimed at individuals who are passionate about mechanical engineering and manufacturing, and who want to develop their skills within a world-class brewing environment.

The purpose of this apprenticeship is to provide structured, work-based training that combines theoretical study with practical workplace exposure. Over a period of 3–4 years, apprentices will gain technical knowledge, safety awareness, and practical competence needed to qualify as Fitter & Turner artisans.

This opportunity will equip candidates with hands-on experience in machining, fitting, assembling, and maintaining plant machinery and components, ensuring that brewery operations run efficiently. Apprentices will be mentored by skilled professionals and will gain exposure to advanced equipment and systems used in a modern production environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete the Fitter & Turner apprenticeship programme in line with SAB and SETA requirements.
  • Participate in structured training modules and on-the-job learning.
  • Maintain strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Assist in assembling, fitting, and repairing plant machinery and equipment.
  • Gain competence in machining operations such as turning, milling, drilling, and grinding.
  • Support with breakdowns, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Contribute to the installation, alignment, and testing of mechanical systems.
  • Participate in planning and preparing for mechanical maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all maintenance and repair work.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • National Technical Certificate (N4) in Mechanical Engineering (Fitting & Turning focus).
  • Higher qualification (N5/N6) in Mechanical Engineering will be advantageous.
  • Strong aptitude for mechanical systems and machining.
  • Physically fit with good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to attend training in Johannesburg or other SAB training facilities.
