Job Description
South African Breweries (SAB), a leading company within the AB InBev family, is committed to developing the next generation of skilled artisans. As part of this commitment, SAB is offering apprenticeship opportunities in four trades:
- Electrical (x3)
- Millwright (x3)
- Instrumentation (x3)
- Fitter & Turner (x3)
These structured 3–4 year apprenticeship programmes are designed to combine theoretical learning with practical workplace experience. Successful candidates will gain the knowledge, technical skills, and industry exposure required to qualify as artisans in their chosen trade.
This is a unique opportunity for motivated individuals who want to start a career in the brewing and manufacturing industry. Apprentices will be mentored by experienced professionals and will receive training aligned with SETA and SAB standards, ensuring a solid foundation for long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities
Across the four trades, apprentices will:
- Complete the apprenticeship programme as required by SAB and SETA.
- Participate in structured classroom and on-the-job training.
- Strictly adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient working environment.
- Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment.
- Gain exposure to plant systems, process optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop technical competence specific to their chosen trade.
Trade-Specific Exposure
- Electrical: Installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
- Millwright: Dual exposure to electrical and mechanical maintenance, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and automation systems.
- Instrumentation: Calibration, maintenance, and repair of measurement and control systems, including PLCs and automation.
- Fitter & Turner: Machining, fitting, assembly, and maintenance of mechanical components and machinery.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science.
- National Technical Certificate (N4) in the relevant discipline:
- Electrical Engineering (for Electrical)
- Mechanical or Electrical (for Millwright)
- Instrumentation / Electronics (for Instrumentation)
- Mechanical Engineering (for Fitter & Turner)
- Higher qualifications (N5/N6) will be advantageous.
- Engineering aptitude and strong interest in the trade.
- Physically fit with good vision (must not be colour blind).
- Willingness to attend periods of formal training at SAB facilities, including Johannesburg.
