Job Description

South African Breweries (SAB) is seeking a skilled Shunter Driver to join its East London Depot operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for shunting vehicles into and out of the warehouse to ensure all trucks are efficiently loaded and offloaded on time. This role is critical to maintaining a smooth logistics flow and upholding SAB’s commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

As part of one of South Africa’s leading beverage manufacturers, the Shunter Driver will work with a dynamic logistics team to support daily operational targets and contribute to SAB’s continued success in meeting customer demand nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere strictly to all safety procedures including lock-out systems, man-vs-machine segregation, and vehicle movement protocols.
• Ensure safe driving, parking, hitching, and unhitching of trucks and trailers at all times.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections following the official vehicle checklist.
• Check and record oil levels, water levels, tyre condition, and report any damages, leaks, or faults.
• Verify that vehicle and trailer combinations are correct as per the daily load plan.
• Load and offload vehicles within the set timeframe and maintain cleanliness of vehicle decks.
• Ensure products are loaded safely and quality-checked before dispatch.
• Stage vehicles correctly in allocated bays for departure and maintain orderly vehicle flow in the yard.
• Operate electronic equipment accurately and comply with SAB operational systems.
• Work closely with warehouse, logistics, and dispatch staff to meet productivity targets.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
• Valid Heavy-Duty Driver’s Licence with relevant professional driving certification.
• Proven driving experience and a clean safety record.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written).
• Strong numeracy and attention to detail.
• Good eyesight and excellent driving coordination.
• Ability to operate electronic and digital tools related to logistics operations.
