About the Programme
The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) in Mpumalanga Province invites young, dynamic South Africans to apply for the Basic Traffic Officer Learnership Programme for 2025/2026. This structured training programme aims to empower youth from Mpumalanga with professional knowledge and practical skills in Traffic Law Enforcement.
This opportunity forms part of the Department’s commitment to improve road safety, law compliance, and youth employment within the province. Successful applicants will undergo a 12-month comprehensive training programme at the Mpumalanga Traffic Training College, located in Mkhuhlu (Calcutta) in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality. Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Diploma in Basic Traffic Officer (NQF Level 4), fully accredited and nationally recognized.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate.
- Valid Code B driving license (manual).
- Must be a South African citizen and reside within Mpumalanga Province.
- No criminal record.
- Must be physically and medically fit, as a medical assessment will be conducted.
- Must be prepared to undergo strenuous physical exercises.
- Candidates will be subjected to driving and competency assessments.
Key Duties and Learning Outcomes
During the course of the 12-month programme, learners will:
- Acquire a comprehensive understanding of Traffic Law Enforcement principles and procedures.
- Learn to enforce the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act No. 93 of 1996) and related legislation.
- Gain practical skills in road safety education, vehicle inspection, and traffic control operations.
- Participate in physical training and field exercises to develop discipline, alertness, and endurance.
- Be trained in incident management, accident scene control, and public safety coordination.
- Learn effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork in a professional enforcement environment.
- Demonstrate commitment to ethical conduct, public service values, and community safety.
Additional Information
Only applicants between the ages of 18 and 35 years will be considered.
The Department aims to promote representivity in terms of race, gender, and disability.
Personnel suitability checks will include qualification verification, criminal record checks, citizenship verification, financial record screening, and driver’s license validation.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for further assessments and interviews.
Incomplete or misleading applications will be automatically disqualified.
The Department will not be responsible for any costs incurred during the application and selection process.
Successful candidates will sign a 12-month training contract with the Department.
