About the Role

The General Worker will play a crucial role in supporting the Maintenance and Directional Drilling Teams. The primary purpose of the job is to ensure the effective maintenance of equipment, provide welding and fitting assistance, and contribute to the reliability and sustainability of operations. The role requires adherence to safety procedures, codes, and standards while utilizing available resources to enhance equipment stability.

Key Responsibilities

Perform welding on mining equipment using flux core and other welding processes.

Safely operate welding equipment and oxy-fuel gas cutting tools.

Assist in the operation of overhead cranes and lifting equipment in compliance with safety protocols.

Conduct visual inspections of the work environment to ensure safety standards are met and report unsafe conditions to superiors.

Apply job-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Codes of Practice (COPs) to maintain high housekeeping standards.

Participate in daily morning meetings to discuss work assignments and team goals.

Identify and report abnormal conditions, hazards, and potential risks.

Support cost-saving initiatives and contribute to the team’s financial efficiency.

Assist artisans with day-to-day tasks and ensure accurate completion of job-specific checklists.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12, N3, or NCV Level 4 (Mathematics and Science are advantageous).
  • Licenses: A valid driver’s license (minimum code 08).
  • Certifications:
  • Medical certificate of fitness (required).
  • First Aid Certificate (preferred).
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 12 months of welding experience.
  • Familiarity with underground machinery (e.g., Shuttle Car, Roof Bolter, Crushers, Feeder/Feeder Breaker).
  • Plant experience (preferred).
  • Ability to operate MIG welding equipment (preferred).

  • Knowledge of safety procedures, emergency preparedness, and the Mine Health and Safety Act.
