Position Overview:
The City of Tshwane is seeking seven dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team as Library Assistants on a three-year fixed-term contract. This role is open to all categories of applicants and is classified at Job Level T7. The salary scale ranges from R239,052 to R332,016 per annum, with an estimated total remuneration package of R336,203 to R454,528 per annum. Purpose of the Role:
The Library Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of library information services. This includes assisting with resource retrieval, circulation, acquisition, collection development, and program implementation. Key Responsibilities:
- Branch Administration: Assist with the day-to-day administrative tasks of the library branch to ensure smooth operations.
- Information Retrieval: Support library users in locating and accessing information resources, both physical and digital.
- Circulation Services: Manage the lending and return of library materials, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely follow-ups.
- Collection Development: Assist in weeding and developing the library’s collection to ensure it remains relevant and up-to-date.
- Reading Programs: Help implement reading programs and initiatives to promote a culture of reading and lifelong learning.
- Educational Support: Provide support to library users, particularly students and educators, by assisting with educational resources and programs.

- A Grade 12 qualification or equivalent.
- Relevant experience, preferably in a library or information services environment.
- Proficiency in SirsiDynix Symphony or any other library management system will be a significant advantage.
- Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and online databases.
