
Johannesburg Metro Police Training Programme 2026 – Applications Now Open
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is currently accepting applications for its 2026 Metro Police Training Intake Programme. This structured development initiative is designed to train and prepare selected candidates for future appointment as Metropolitan Police Officers.
A total of 500 positions are available, with recruitment specifically targeting youth residing within the City of Johannesburg. Successful completion of the 18-month training programme will lead to possible employment as a Metro Police Officer within the department.
Training Details
- Duration: 18 months of full-time, structured training
- Start Date: Training is anticipated to commence on 1 January 2026
- Location: JMPD Training Academy, Johannesburg
All selected trainees will receive a monthly stipend, in accordance with the City of Johannesburg’s policy. Participants will be required to sign training contracts and strictly adhere to the regulations of the JMPD Academy and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) training policy.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Hold a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or NQF Level 4 qualification
- Reside within the City of Johannesburg (original proof of residence required)
- Be between 18 and 35 years of age
- Possess a valid Code B driver’s licence (Learner’s licences not accepted)
- Be mentally and physically fit (submit a comprehensive medical certificate)
- Successfully complete a pre-training fitness assessment
- Have no criminal record or convictions (biometric and background checks will apply)
- Have no civil judgments relating to fraud or corruption
- Be proficient in English
- Be willing to undergo vetting processes
- Be willing to carry a firearm and wear an official uniform
