Job Overview
The Ultra Heavy Duty Drivers are primarily responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods and materials across various locations. This role requires drivers to maintain the highest standards of safety, compliance with transportation regulations, and operational efficiency. The position falls within the Multi Axles Department, dealing specifically with abnormal load transportation and multi-tractor applications. Drivers will also handle hydraulic truck-mounted cranes for loading and unloading materials, ensuring all tasks are performed in adherence to safety protocols.
This re-advertised position seeks experienced drivers who are well-versed in handling complex logistical operations and are committed to maintaining road safety and equipment care at all times.
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Education: Matric (Grade 12) qualification
Licenses:
A valid and unendorsed Code 14 Driver’s License
A valid Public Driver’s Permit (PDP)
A relevant Crane Driving qualification
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in operating inter-link or abnormal interrupter vehicles
At least 2 years of experience driving other heavy-duty vehicles
Proficiency in operating hydraulic truck-mounted cranes and handling abnormal loads

The ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of:
- Defensive Driving: In-house evaluations by appointed logistics staff will assess the candidate’s knowledge and adherence to defensive driving techniques.
- Safety Regulations: A thorough understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, particularly in relation to alcohol and drug abuse, and the Road Traffic Act.
- Hazard Identification: Recognizing hazardous driving conditions and taking proactive measures to avoid accidents.
- Crane Operations: Ability to interpret crane hand signals and execute crane movements accurately.
- Quality and Safety Systems: Familiarity with internal safety protocols and quality management systems to ensure every task is performed with minimal risk.

Key Responsibilities
The Ultra Heavy Duty Drivers will be responsible for the following:
- Vehicle Maintenance: Regularly inspecting and maintaining vehicles to ensure they are in optimal working condition for long-distance trips.
- Loading and Unloading: Safely loading vehicles with goods, materials, or equipment, ensuring that everything is secured properly for transport.
- Transporting Goods: Ensuring the safe and timely delivery of goods, following all road safety regulations.
- Compliance and Safety: Abiding by all transportation laws, including driving multi-axles and low-bed vehicles while transporting abnormal loads.
- General Duties: Assisting with other logistics tasks and supporting the business unit as required.
