Position: Warehouse Clerk

Department: Commercial Services – Inventory

Location: South Deep Gold Mine

The Warehouse Clerk is responsible for providing both administrative and physical support for materials management activities, ensuring the efficient handling of valid orders and reservations. This role involves tasks such as receiving, recording, storing, transferring, stock-taking, and issuing goods.

Job Description:


The Warehouse Clerk at South Deep Gold Mine will manage various aspects of materials handling and inventory management. Key duties include processing and documenting incoming and outgoing goods, maintaining accurate records of stock levels, ensuring that all materials are stored correctly, and complying with safety and operational procedures. This role requires effective communication skills for coordinating with different departments and external suppliers, as well as the ability to handle physical tasks such as loading and off-loading materials.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inventory management systems, particularly SAP, and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in all aspects of their work. The Warehouse Clerk will also be responsible for conducting regular stock counts and reporting discrepancies. Ensuring the smooth operation of warehouse activities and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance are crucial aspects of this role.

Minimum Requirements:

– Grade 12 qualification or equivalent

– At least two (2) years of administrative or relevant experience in a stores or inventory management environment

– Proficiency with SAP and Materials Management System

– Valid EB Driver’s license

– Must be declared medically fit for the position and work environment through a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre, including passing a Heat Tolerance Screening test and any other necessary assessments to determine suitability for employment

High attention to detail and accuracy in managing large transaction volumes

Proficiency with SAP in a Materials Management context

Ability to work independently while collaborating with team members

Capability to manage pressure and meet deadlines effectively

Duties and Responsibilities:

Actively participate in Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) campaigns and adhere to all SHE standards

Perform tasks according to established work instructions and SHE policies to ensure personal and others’ safety

Conduct basic warehouse tasks under supervision, ensuring proper receipt, storage, and maintenance of goods according to set policies and procedures, including assisting with packaging tasks as needed

Execute basic inventory control tasks by verifying quantities, quality, and availability against records, adhering to established inventory control policies and procedures

Operate machinery and equipment as licensed, following strict and detailed work instructions for routine tasks

Perform routine tasks in compliance with established policies, procedures, and external regulatory codes, ensuring adherence to internal quality standards

Execute tasks within set budget and cost parameters, identifying and reporting any deviations
