Introduction:
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is looking for 43 qualified individuals to join its Security Services section at the SAPS Head Office in Pretoria. The successful candidates will be responsible for various security functions in line with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act. Preference will be given to applicants who are dedicated, reliable, and committed to maintaining the safety of SAPS premises.
Requirements:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be competent in the post-specific core functions.
- Fluent in at least two official languages, one of which must be English.
- Be a South African Citizen.
- No prior criminal or departmental convictions or pending criminal/departmental cases.
- Successfully complete a vetting process, including security screening and fingerprint verification.
- Possession of a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) on NQF Level 4.
- Registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) and a minimum Grade C security certificate.
- Not declared unfit to possess a firearm and willingness to undergo and maintain firearm competency training.
- A degree or diploma in security will be an added advantage.
- Relevant security courses and a valid driver’s license (light motor vehicle) are advantageous.
- Willingness to work shifts and extended hours.
Duties:
As a Security Officer at SAPS Head Office, your key responsibilities will include:
Executing access control duties in compliance with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act No. 53 of 1985).
Conducting positive identification of employees, visitors, and contractors at security access points.
Registering employees, visitors, and contractors, and performing electronic searches where required.
Authorizing entry to premises upon meeting legislative requirements, confirming visits with hosts, and ensuring escorting in line with prescripts.
Issuing and retrieving admission control cards for visitors.
Maintaining visitor registers and conducting inspections of suppliers, articles, and objects to ensure the safety of the premises.
Patrolling buildings and fenced-off areas and guarding vehicles and equipment from a security standpoint.
Checking all security equipment and facilities and reporting any issues to senior security personnel.
