Job Description:

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is looking to fill the position of Messenger/Driver within the Office of the Deputy National Commissioner: Crime Detection in Pretoria. The primary responsibility of the Messenger/Driver will be to provide efficient courier services, ensuring that documents and parcels are delivered accurately and promptly. The successful candidate will also assist in the general administrative operations of the office by maintaining logs and records of all deliveries and collections.

This position requires someone with excellent time management, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively. The candidate will be expected to operate under tight deadlines and be flexible in working extended hours when necessary. Maintaining confidentiality and working with a high level of integrity will be essential to perform well in this role. The Messenger/Driver will also handle logistical tasks such as photocopying documents and ensuring that all resources, including vehicles, are utilized effectively.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Grade 10 qualification (Grade 12 would be an added advantage).
  • A valid light vehicle driver’s license is essential.
  • Basic literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and write effectively.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours when needed.
  • Proficiency in at least two official languages, with one being English.
  • South African citizenship.
  • No previous criminal convictions or pending criminal cases.
  • Applicants will be subjected to a security vetting process, including fingerprint verification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide courier services for the Office of the Deputy National Commissioner: Crime Detection.
  • Maintain accurate registers and logs of all documents received and delivered on a daily basis.
  • Assist with the photocopying of documents for the office.
  • Ensure that the human, financial, and logistical resources allocated to the position are properly maintained.
  • Manage the organization and distribution of documents, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Adhere to all safety and security protocols when handling sensitive documents.
  • Coordinate with other departments and personnel to ensure smooth document handling and delivery services.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow through with tasks efficiently.
  • Understanding of confidentiality protocols and professional conduct.
