Public Schools are recruiting Housekeepers (Male & Female) to provide care, supervision, and daily support to learners residing in school hostels. These positions are ideal for compassionate, responsible, and patient individuals who are passionate about supporting learners in a safe, clean, and structured environment.

Successful candidates will assist with learner care, hostel supervision, cleaning, meal support, and ensuring the overall well-being of learners. Housekeepers play an important role in creating a safe and supportive environment where learners can live, study, and thrive.

Job Description

Housekeepers will be responsible for the day-to-day care and supervision of learners in school hostels. The successful candidates will help maintain a clean, safe, and nurturing environment while supporting learners with their daily routines and personal care where required. Applicants must be willing to work shifts, including day and night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification; or
• Differentiated Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (DCAPS) Grade 5; or
• Technical Occupational Curriculum (TOC) Level 4 for Persons with Intellectual Disability.
• A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage (except for persons with disabilities).
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to work well with learners.
• Care and learner support skills.
• Patience, compassion, and empathy.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
• Good interpersonal and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be responsible for:

• Ensuring the safety and well-being of all learners in the hostel.
• Supporting and mentoring learners.
• Implementing hostel rules and promoting positive behaviour.
• Accompanying learners for medical attention when required.
• Cleaning and maintaining hostel facilities.
• Assisting learners to prepare for school each day.
• Serving meals in the dining hall and assisting with feeding learners who require support.
• Administering medication as prescribed by a medical practitioner.
• Assisting younger learners or learners who require help with bathing and personal hygiene.
• Helping learners with schoolwork where necessary.
• Changing nappies for learners who are unable to do so independently.
• Acting in loco parentis by providing appropriate care, supervision, and guidance.
• Performing shift work, including day shifts, night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
